Plan early
Organising a teambuilding is time-consuming. Be sure to start planning it well in advance so that you are prepared for all possible complications and delays.
Define your goal
Of course, the general goal of teambuilding is to strengthen relationships, but you should know your team better and tailor the teambuilding activities accordingly. Do you have a stable team where people know each other, but maybe things are slipping and you would like to bring them closer together? A collective activity where they have to work as one could arrange this. Or on the other hand, do you have a relatively young team where people know each other very little? Choose activities where they get to know each other better. Or have you just had a busy and stressful period and want to give your team a well-deserved break? Prepare a great party for them.
Get to know your people
The individual activities at a team building event should be aligned with the interests of the people on your team. If most of your people play sports, sports activities are great, but if you know that they are reluctant to play sports, choose other activities instead. Obviously, you can never please everyone, but try to follow the voice of the majority. This will show your team that you know them, care about them, and what's more, respect them, and this will certainly help relationships within the company.
Choose a convenient time and location.
For example, team building in the middle of the holiday season probably won't be bursting at the seams, and neither will team building in a location that your people can't get to. In such a case, it will be nice to think about arranging transportation as well.
